My most recent Anno Astra mobile suit, finished last night...
Created by an industrial consortium expressly formed for this purpose, and under the guidance of a select committee from the Society of Jesus, the Templar was designed to protect the holdings and interests of the Consolidated Churches of Christ from threats, both internal and external. It is a very flexible, high-performance medium MS with a large number of hardpoints, and built exclusively in small numbers for a single customer.
In light of the size of its funding, the Templar sports many of the latest advances in mobile suit technology. Twin Westinghouse MIUC reactors rated for heavy MS use powers its mediumweight frame. In conjunction with conventional turret binders, the fin binders give it much greater maneuverability for a modest increase in propellant usage. The forearm-mounted beam gun/sabers are based on OTO Breda's 'Cestus'; technology that give it a greater chance of penetrating a normal-strength I-field barrier at close ranges with a fully-charged shot. The twin CIWS pulse lasers are gimbal-mounted, allowing each to operate independently or in conjunction with one another. The heat exchange fins mounted in the head allow these to fire continuous beams for short periods. The 75mm multilaunchers are generally used for defensive purposes, such as for launching inflatable decoys, smoke and chaff grenades. The armour is a sophisticated blend of cermet composites and so-called 'exotics' assembled into easily replaced, modular sections. The latest in AI systems gives unit leaders excellent command and control capabilities, permitting him to direct the other members of his unit effectively even in the heat of battle.
