A mobile suit from Anno Astra...

EM-31 Ares

The Ares, named after the Greek god of war, is a medium-heavy mobile suit developed for the armies of Great Achaea by Mytileneos & ELBO with technical assistance from Steyr. Thanks to a high power-to-weight ratio and an increase in the active fiber bundles and power conduits for the leg systems, it possesses very good ground speed & mobility in spite of its heavy torso & skirt armour. Its two-section forearm design permits the lower half to rotate irrespective of the rest of the arm, although this imposes weight limits on its hand-held weaponry. Heavier weapons often require the use of a support rig attached to the hip hardpoint to reduce the strain on the arms. The head unit’s limited movement range, restricting the possible firing arcs of its close-in pulse lasers, has come under criticism. The placement of its turret binders also limits the types of shoulder-mounted weaponry that it can use.

The depicted mobile suit is part of the ‘Sons of Talos’ mercenary Freesuit company contracted by Novartis to operate and defend against assets owned and contracted by Wyeth on the planet Symbeline. This, Captain Seth Anderson’s machine, has seen extensive duty in the vast ‘jungles’ of the main equatorial archipelago. As can be clearly seen, operating for months in the dense flora of an ecosystem evolved around an acidic environment has taken its toll on this machine’s finish. Through chemical and mechanical action, portions of the protective coating have actually been worn down to the bare armour. Combat damage is also evident, the most serious being a gouge in the upper left torso where a large-caliber coilgun round hit but failed to penetrate the armour. Other damage include non-penetrating coilgun hits to the head, left skirt and waist armour. Even though there is seldom cause to leave the cockpit, Captain Anderson himself wears an armoured suit with limited power-assist for protection against the environment and for easier movement in the heavier gravity. As shown, all external weaponry have been dismounted, including appliqué armour & active defense systems.

The harvesting of alien biologicals as raw material for the production of various pharmaceuticals, such as pills for hangovers and quick recovery from jump sickness, anti-agathic treatments & broad-spectrum antibiotics, has given rise to so-called ‘pharm-wars,’ where individual corporations attempt to interfere with their rivals’ harvesting operations with the use of military and other means. While many have pointed out that this is but another variation of the ‘corporate war’ phenomenon, the potentially disastrous effects on alien yet viable ecosystems has forced League observers to investigate such incidents more closely with an eye towards the revision of regulations & conventions currently in force.

'Freesuit' is a popular term for MS & DS pilots acting as mercenaries, evoking a romantic image that is more often than not quite divorced from reality.

Also, Happy New Year!

For the curious, the design is partly derived from the Zentraedi Nousjadeul-Ger (or however you spell it) powered suit.

Amazing paitn job, looks really battle scarred, like if it has seen a lot of action. Also, I like how the armor plates look so compactly united, yet it has that stylish, agile look.

Ok, i didnt read anything now, but....very nice design, and also very good worked out! The details, scratches and lights are making a good 3d-feeling.
Guess youve spend some time on that one, but it was worth it =)

To be honest, it was pretty blah without all the wear & tear.
